COVID: World 21M, 776K deaths; U.S. 5.4M cases, 170K deaths

The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Monday, August 17, at 7:27 a.m.:

Worldwide cases: 21,749,290      Worldwide deaths:  776,395

U.S. cases:  5,414,381    U.S. deaths: 170,178

According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide case report increased by 221,943 in the last 24 hours.  The worldwide death toll in the past two days increased by 4,o25.

According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 34,467 cases in the last 24 hours.  In that time,  the number of reported deaths from  COVID-19 increased by 433.    Nationwide, cases and deaths seem to be stabilizing.

In Hawaii, the number of cumulative cases of COVID-19 is 5,042, with around 3,161 active as of Sunday.  The Big Island’s cumulative case count is 148, with around 23 active cases.  The island has added 9 new cases in the past two days.

This morning at 10 a.m., the State House Select Committee on COVID-19 Economic and Financial Preparedness briefing will focus on Hawai‘i’s current medical and economic status, its prognosis, and recommendations.  It will live stream on NaLeo TV.
