COVID: World deaths 880K, US cases 6.2M, deaths 188K

The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Sunday, September 6, at 5:28 a.m.:

Worldwide cases:  26,929,464       Worldwide deaths: 880,500

U.S. cases:  6,249,163       U.S. deaths:  188,574

According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide case report increased by 255,078 in the last 24 hours.  Deaths worldwide increased by more than 4,761.

According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 38,464 cases in the last 24 hours.  In that time,  the number of reported deaths from  COVID-19 increased by 700.

In Hawaii, cases have been spiking–and on the Big Island, both county and state beaches and parks are closed through September 18 to help stop the spread of the virus.

Hawaii Island’s cumulative case count is now 493, with at least 265 active cases.  Most of the people with new cases of COVID-19 were exposed at gatherings, with many people not wearing masks and not distancing.

The state’s total number of  COVID-19 cases  is 9,693 (as of Saturday at noon).  The number of active cases is 6,678.

The number of deaths, per State Department of Health, is 84.  There have been 5 deaths on the Big Island, all residents at Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home, 2 of which are not yet in the state’s total count.
