According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 27,746 cases in the last 24 hours.  In that time,  the number of reported deaths from  COVID-19 increased by 689.  The daily case additions and deaths are much lower than just a few months ago.

Hawaii’s cumulative count is now 10,025, with around 6,874 active cases.  The state added only 66 new cases on Tuesday, the lowest addition since August 2.  Late Tuesday the State COVID-19 Joint Information Center said the low count was the result of relatively few tests being reported.

Hawaii County has suffered 9 deaths, all in residents of the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home next to Hilo Medical Center. A total of 59 of the home’s 74 residents have tested positive for COVID-19, and Sen. Brian Schatz has called on the Veterans Administration to help the facility with infection control, additional PPE, staffing, and more.

The island’s total case count is 523, with around 285 active cases.  Most of the island’s cases recently have been in East Hawaii, reportedly the result of people gathering together without masks and without distancing, although West Hawaii has clusters as well.

On O’ahu, Mayor Kirk Caldwell has loosened some of the restrictions on O’ahu, which has more than 6,000 active cases.  Beaches, parks, and trails are open now for solo activities only, but businesses are still closed, through September 23.
