State adds 66 new COVID; Big Island adds 6 but has 2 new deaths

The State has only 66 new COVID-19 cases today, bringing the total to 10,844.  The active case number is approximately 6,859.   The number of deaths reported by State Department of Health is 100, but that number does not include 12 of Hawaii Island’s known deaths.

The Big Island added only 6 new COVID-19 positive cases, and Hawaii County Mayor said in an interview on NaLeo TV today that three of those were residents of the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home.  The island’s cumulative total is 599, with around 222 active cases.   Hawaii County Civil Defense reported two new deaths at the Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home, bringing the death toll at the facility from COVID-19 to 14.  The  island has had 15 total deaths from COVID-19.  As of today’s report, State DOH is only counting three.

Hilo Medical Center should provide an update later this afternoon.

Neither Maui nor Kaua’i has any new reported cases of COVID-19.   One Hawaii resident who is currently out of state has COVID-19.   O’ahu has 59 new cases.
