US COVID deaths nearly 213K, cases 7.6M

The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Friday, October 9, at 5:23 a.m.:

Worldwide cases:  36,625,213   Worldwide deaths:  1,063,381

U.S. cases: 7,611,772   U.S. deaths:  212,840

According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide case report increased by 359,231 in the last 24 hours.  Deaths worldwide increased by 5,876.

According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 51,762 cases in the last 24 hours.  In that time,  the number of reported deaths from  COVID-19 increased by 737.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) forecasts that there will be between 224,000 and 233,000 new cases of COVID-19 by Oct. 31.

On the mainland, the Johns Hopkins Dashboard reports that Los Angeles County has the highest case and dath count, with 278,665 cases, and 6,726 deaths.

As of Thursday afternoon, State Department of Health confirmed there are 13,146 COVID-19 cases in the state. The number of active cases is around 2,378.

The State is now reporting 164 deaths from COVID-19. The Big Island now has had 36 deaths, but only 15 are included in the State report.  There was one death at Kona Community Hospital, in a woman in her 40s who went to the Emergency Room last Monday.  There have been 35 deaths in Hilo, 6 among community members, 27 in residents at Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home, and 2 at Life Care Center of Kona.

The Big Island’s total count of COVID-19 cases is 866, with 164 active cases.  The most recent large cluster is associated with the University of the Nations in Kona, with 37 total cases.  On Thursday U of N announced all 955 people associated with the University have been tested for COVID-19.  Results are pending for several hundred.
