Big Island adds 24 cases, O’ahu adds 77

The State Department of Health reports 103 new cases of COVID-19 today, with 24 on the Big Island and 77 on O’ahu.  No other county added any cases.

The state’s total is now 13,472 cumulative COVID-19 cases, with around 2,553 active.

The State report includes 169 deaths.  The Big Island has had 37 deaths–1 in Kona, and 36 in Hilo.  The State is only reporting 15 of those deaths.  The Big Island’s 16th death was confirmed by Hawaii County Civil Defense on Sept. 16, nearly a month ago.  State DOH says it needs to confirm  the Big Island’s deaths reported  related to COVID-19 before adding them to its official state count.

The Big Island’s total COVID-19 case count now is 948, with around 205 active cases.  The State DOH “cases in last 28 days map” indicates there have been 152 cases in Kailua Kona zip 96740 in the last 28 days.  That’s 11 new cases in 96740 since Saturday.  The map indicates there have been 116 new cases in Hilo, 96720, in the last 28 days.
