The Hawaii County Council will hold an emergency meeting today at 1 p.m. They have asked Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim and Civil Defense Administrator Talmadge Magno to explain the County’s plan for reopening travel, beginning tomorrow.
On Tuesday, Gov. David Ige held a press conference and then Mayor Harry Kim released a proclamation which indicated that Hawaii County will require all incoming trans-Pacific travelers to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival at the Kona, Hilo, or Waimea airports. This will apply to all travelers coming from outside the state, even if they have presented a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of their departing Hawaii flight, which will allow them to bypass the state’s 14-day travel quarantine.
However, according to the Mayor’s proclamation, interisland travelers, state residents who may wish to come to the Big Island, will not be allowed to bypass the 14-day quarantine even if they were to take a test in advance or at the airport.
