Free COVID tests today, Ocean View, 9 til 1

Hawaii County is offering free COVID-19 testing today at Kahuku Park in Ocean View.  The testing is drive-through and goes from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) notes that around 40% of the people with COVID-19 have few or no symptoms.  Symptoms may be as subtle as an unusual and barely noticeable chill up the back, or a slight headache or stuffy head.

The island has added 103 cases since last Monday.  Most cases are in people 40 and younger, and officials say most of the new cases are a result of people gathering without masks.  The cases are locally-generated, and not a result of travel.

There is no shame to getting tested for COVID-19, and no shame in having it.   It is important for people to get tested, symptoms or not, to try to stem the tide of the virus on the island.  People who test positive are to stay at home, and if their housing situation does not allow for isolation, the State Department of Health will offer a hotel room and all meals for those people who need the space to ride out their isolation period, which ranges from 10 to 14 days.
