Where are the COVID-19 cases?

With the Big Island’s 51 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, the island’s total is 1,221, with 348 active.

The State Department of Health reports the following increases in new cases in the last 14 days by district today:

Kailua-Kona, zip 96740, total 344 cases, 111 in the past 14 days

Hilo, zip 96720, total  457 cases, 48 in the past 14 days

Waikoloa/Puako, zip 96738, total 36 cases, 27 in the past 14 days

Pepeekeo, zip 96783, total 27 cases, 22 in the past 14 days

Ocean View, zip 96737, total 24 cases, 20 in the past 14 days

All other districts have had 10 or fewer new cases in the past 14 days.  Click here for the State DOH map, and hover the cursor over any district to see the count.  There are several zip codes, in gray, one in South Kona but most along the Hamakua Coast, for which State DOH does not report any numbers.

Another measure used by State DOH is the percent of people in an area with a positive COVID-19 test result–positivity.  The top districts where residents live and have had a positive result over the past 14 days:

Pahala, 96777, 10.3%

Waikoloa/Puako, 96738, 9%

Kailua-Kona, 96720, 5.4%

Pau’illo, 96781, 4.2%

Kealakekua, 96750, 3%

All the other districts have a 1.5% or lower positivity rate.
