State adds 66, Big Island adds 3 COVID cases

The State has recorded 66 new cases of COVID-19.  That brings the state’s total case count to 14,773 and the active cases to 3,035.  The state is counting 215 deaths.

The island of Lanai has gone from no cases 8 days ago to 87 confirmed as of now, with one death.  Today’s new cases numbered 9.  Over the weekend, around 1,100 of Lanai’s 3,000 residents were tested for COVID after large clusters began showing up.  Health officials said the first cases started with a funeral gathering.

The island of O’ahu added 50 cases today, Maui Island added 2, and there are 2 new cases in Hawaii residents who are out of state.

The Big Island has 3 new cases, a significant drop from last week, when new daily cases averaged 12.   Cases appear to be spread around the island, although Hawaii County Civil Defense has noted clusters at housing units in North Kona and South Hilo.    The Big Island has lost 42 residents to COVID-19, with 30 in the state’s official death toll.
