State adds 128 new COVID; Big Island adds 11

The State of Hawaii is continuing its triple-digit increase in COVID-19 cases in the state, with today’s 128 new cases.  This is the fourth day in a row with 100 or more new cases.   The state’s new cumulative total is 15,819.  The state is reporting 220 deaths.

With this fourth triple-digit increase, the Hawaii Emergency Management sent out a tweet, saying …”Please take a moment and consider safety for yourself and your family.  Our hospitals’ capacity will be compromised if this continues.  If in doubt, wear a mask.”

O’ahu has 108 new cases, there are 2 new cases on Maui Island and on Kaua’i and 5 in residents who are out of state. Neither Lanai nor Moloka’i have any new cases.

Hawaii Island has 21 new cases. The Big Island’s total is 1,386, with 68 people having required hospitalization and 48 people having died (though the State is only reporting 31 so far). The active case number on the Big Island is 356.

As of Friday, Hilo Medical Center was reporting it had  5 people with COVID-19 in the hospital’s COVID-19 Unit, and 1 person with COVID-19 in the Intensive Care Unit, separated from other patients, and not on a ventilator. Kona Community Hospital had 6 patients with COVID-19, with 2 in the ICU and one of those on a ventilator, and the other 4 in the hospital’s COVID-19 area.  One new hospitalization has been reported for the Big Island today, but it’s not known where that patient is.
