According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide case report increased by 555,954 in the last 24 hours. Deaths worldwide increased by 8,345.
According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 158,290 cases in the last 24 hours. This is the tenth day in a row the new cases have been greater than 100,000. In the last day, the number of reported deaths from COVID-19 increased by 1,198.
Every state now has increasing numbers. The concern nationwide is hospital capacity. Nationwide, nearly 70,000 people are hospitalized.
North Dakota now leads the nation in infections per capita, according to the Washington Post. Gov. Doug Burgum has ordered a mask mandate, for the first time since the pandemic began, with the fine for violating the order at $1,000. Burgum said the circumstances in the state had changed and the state now has to change. Because the hospitalizations in North Dakota are so high, leading to a shortage of healthcare workers, Burgum and health officials have asked healthcare workers with COVID-19 but who have no symptoms to continue caring for patients.
Governors and Mayors nationwide are putting measures in place to attempt to limit the spread of the virus.
Hawaii now has 16,519 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The Big Island has 1,471 confirmed cases. Although the State Department of Health has stopped reporting how many cases are released from isolation, which allowed calculation of actual active cases, there are at least 196 active cases on the Big Island, as those are cases confirmed within the past 14 days. Most cases are in those 40 and younger.
