State has 163 new COVID cases–isle has 15

The State, after days of more modest increases, has confirmed 163 new cases of COVID-19 today.  The State’s total number of COVID-19 cases is 17,098.  The State Department of Health has confirmed 7 additional deaths from COVID-19, bringing the total number of people in the state who have died from COVID-19 to 231.

O’ahu has added 123 cases, Maui Island has added 12, there are 9 new cases in Hawaii residents who are out of state, and Kaua’i added 4.  There were no new cases in the other two islands in Maui County–Moloka’i and Lana’i.

There are 15 new cases on Hawaii Island, bringing the island’s total to 1,527.  Of those, at least 150 are active as they were contracted within the past 14 days.  There are likely more.   On Friday the CDC released a new report indicating that around 50% of the cases have been spread by people with no symptoms, and urged people to wear masks that now are known to protect the wearer as well as everyone else.   The County has 49 known deaths, but only 32 are yet counted in the state report.
