Island has 13 new, with state adding 129

The State Department of Health has confirmed 129 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s total to 20,650.  These numbers reflect tests as of last Tuesday.

The Big Island count increased by 13.  The island has had 1,848 total cases of COVID-19, and 50 people are known to have died from the virus.  Statewide, the DOH is confirming 285 cases.

First responders are being vaccinated today in Kona.  Yesterday, first responders were vaccinated in Hilo.  Health workers at all three of the island’s hospitals have also been getting vaccinated this week.  Although the vaccine, once given to 75% or more of our state’s population, will begin to stem the spread of COVID-19.  But we must still wear masks and distance.  Health officials urge everybody to remember that over the next week of holidays.  They say the goal this Christmas should be to ensure that our friends and loved ones are here next Christmas to celebrate.
