Governor Ige Says State Government Will Have To Tighten Its Belt

(AP) — Hawaii’s governor is asking residents to be ready for more tough times as the state grapples with a large budget shortfall because the coronavirus pandemic has pummeled the tourism industry. But during his State of the State address on Monday, Gov. David Ige says improved tax revenue forecasts mean he’s not currently seeking broad-based tax increases. Ige says government will have to tighten its belt and citizens will have to do more with less. He says everyone will have to help each other. The governor usually delivers his annual State of the State address to the state Legislature. This year he spoke in front of a camera to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
