Honolulu Mayor Wants to Ease COVID Restrictions

(AP) — Honolulu’s mayor wants to change Oahu’s coronavirus guidelines to allow for less restrictions despite a growing number of COVID-19 cases on the island. Each county in Hawaiʻi sets forth guidelines for when to impose certain restrictions based on positive case counts. Under the current scheme on Oahu, Hawaiʻi’s most populated island, tighter restrictions should be triggered by a seven-day average of 50 to 100 cases. The island has had an average of more than 50 cases per day for the past week, The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Wednesday. But Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi said Monday he was “dead set” against rolling back.
