Protestors Gather in Waikiki in Response to Recent Police Shootings

(AP) — Dozens of people gathered in Honolulu’s Waikiki neighborhood over the weekend following two recent police shootings in the state. Hawaii News Now reported that the demonstrators at the Saturday protest said they were there to demand justice for the victims. On April 5, Honolulu police officers shot and killed 16-year-old Iremamber Sykap after the teen allegedly committed several crimes over the course of a few days. On Wednesday, Lindani Myeni, a 29-year-old Black man, was shot and killed after allegedly entering into a stranger’s home. The Honolulu Police Department has said both shootings were justified.
