Pahoa Man Charged for Felony Abuse and Firearm Offenses

Hawai‘i Island police have charged a 47-year-old Pahoa man with felony abuse and firearm charges stemming from an incident in lower Puna.

On Wednesday, April 28, 2021, Puna police made contact with a 29-year-old woman at the Pahoa police station who reported that her boyfriend, identified as Raymond Robello Dias IV, had punched and strangled her at his residence in Nanawale Estates.  The woman also reported that Dias took her phone from her when she tried to call 911 and prevented her from leaving the residence for several hours. While speaking with officers, the woman also reported that Dias threatened to kill her and provided information regarding Dias having firearms at the residence.

Officers conducted checks at the Nanawale home and were able to locate and arrest Dias without incident. Detectives from the Area I Juvenile Aid Section continued the investigation and were able to serve a search warrant at the residence resulting in the recovery of two firearms and ammunition. During the course of the investigation, detectives discovered that Dias is a convicted felon.

On Friday, April 30, 2021, after conferral with prosecutors, detectives charged Dias with felony and misdemeanor abuse of a family or household member, kidnapping, terroristic threatening, interference with reporting a crime or emergency and three counts of ownership/possession prohibited. His bail was set at $123,000 and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday May 3, 2021.
