Prosecutors Defend Pursuing Charges Against 3 Honolulu Police Officers

(AP) — Honolulu prosecutors say there’s legal authority to prosecute three police officers in connection with a shooting that killed a 16-year-old Micronesian boy. In response to a motion seeking to dismiss the case, prosecutors say the law supports bringing charges via a hearing before a judge to determine probable cause. A motion by one of the officers say prosecutors can’t prosecute the case that way after failing to convince a grand jury to indict the officers. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, which is also when a judge is expected to consider the motion to dismiss.
