Dozens of Maui Residents Rally for Affordable Housing

(AP) — Dozens of Maui residents held a rally for affordable housing as the county’s median home price tops $1 million. County council is also considering a new affordable housing plan that would allocate $380 million on infrastructure and $789 million to support local housing. The group Stand Up Maui organized the rally. It gathered more than 40 people in Kahului. Residents told the Maui County Council that the county should require that candidates for affordable housing have at least 20 years of residency. But the Comprehensive Affordable Housing Plan calls for two years of residency.
