Because Bay Clinic believes that it takes more than just information to sway those hesitant to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to get vaccinated; it will be offering monetary incentives to those receiving the vaccine. At the vaccination visit, patients will get a mahalo mystery gift bag that includes gas cards as well as gift cards from over 20 local supermarkets, restaurants, and other food eateries. Gift cards will be distributed as follows: participants that opt to get a vaccine that requires two doses (Pfizer, Moderna) will receive up to $50 in gift cards for their first dose and an additional $50 worth of gift cards at their second dose visit. Those receiving the one dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine will receive up to $100 in gift cards after receiving the single shot.
In a press release Bay Clinic C.E.O. Dr. Kimo Alameda said, “We have to do more to encourage Hawai’i Island residents to get the vaccine and perhaps a monetary incentive through the use of gift cards might do it for some.” Dr. Alameda added, “stopping the spread will take more than pleas from politicians, friends or medical professionals. Delivering real rewards beyond the vaccine’s health benefits may be required. This incentive program is also a way to address the increasing food insecurity in East Hawai’i and support local businesses. Truly, a win-win. We will see how it goes.”
Bay Clinic offers all three vaccinations at their COVID Clinic located at 305 Wailuku Drive as well as at many of their outreach events.
Vaccine apppointments are available Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 808-965-3047. Walk-ins are also accepted.
