HFD Rescues Victims of Sinking Boat from Hilo Bay

On Saturday, August 7, 2021, Hawaiʻi County Fire Department Company 1, Rescue Company 2 and the Batallion Chief responded to a report of a small partially submerged boat about 100 yards off the shore of Hilo Bay with victims in the water. E1 and the BC were able to keep eyes on the three victims, their dog and boat, while the rescue boat and a private personal water craft launched from Wailoa Harbor.

Once on scene, the personal water craft, operated by an off duty lifeguard, transferred the victims to the rescue boat.  They were then were taken to Wailoa Harbor for evaluation by Medic 1, while their boat was towed to the nearby sandy shoreline.
