Hospitals Prepare Across the State Amid COVID Surge

(AP) — Democratic Gov. David Ige says a new wave of the coronavirus pandemic has Hawaiʻi in “crisis” mode, with hospitals putting together overflow plans and the state recording its highest single jump in cases. Ige said at a news conference that 1,167 new infections were reported Friday. That includes a small number of cases from previous days that were delayed because of a technical glitch. But it still represents the highest single increase since the start of the pandemic. Ige says Hawaiʻi saw an average of 729 new cases over the past three days. The state has a population of nearly 1.5 million.
