Keaukaha Woman Charged with Vehicle Theft

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that 25 year-old Abrien Alvarez  of Keaukaha was charged in relation to the theft and unauthorized operation of a Dodge pickup.  The vehicle was originally reported stolen from a Pahoa business on November 29, 2021.

Review of court records indicates that Alvarez is currently pending three other unrelated felony cases, including two unauthorized control of propelled vehicle incidents, and was recently granted supervised release over Prosecutor’s objections on November 22nd .

As the Complaint alleges, Alvarez was charged with Theft in the Second Degree (theft of property valued greater than $750, a Dodge pickup), Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle in the First Degree (unauthorized control of a Dodge pickup without the owner’s consent), and Unauthorized Possession of Confidential or Personal Information (possession of a check without authorization). At the time of Alvarez’s arrest, she was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated District Court matter.

The investigation was initiated by South Hilo and Puna Patrol. Alvarez’s arrest and the follow up investigation was handled by Officer Christopher Fukumoto, Community Policing, and Officers Michael Sailer and Sheldon Adviento and Detectives John Balberde and Keith 2 Simeona, Special Enforcement Unit, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Soong.
