Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that Kona Circuit Court Judge Wendy DeWeese granted Prosecutors motion to hold 53 year-old Glendon Nakata of Kona without bail, pending his jury trial on April 5, 2022 for a December 3, 2021 domestic abuse incident.
Judge DeWeese found that Nakata has been charged with a serious crime and there is a serious risk that Nakata will injure or intimidate and poses a danger to a prospective witness based upon witness testimony, exhibits received into evidence, and arguments by counsel during yesterday’s hearing.
As the Indictment alleges, Nakata is charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (by impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood by applying pressure on the throat or the neck with his hands, fingers, and/or a ligature), Kidnapping (restrained another person with intent to inflict bodily injury and/or terrorize), Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree (threaten by word or conduct with the use of a dangerous instrument, a dog leash or ligature), and two counts of Felony Abuse of Family or Household Member (causing bodily injury by impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood by applying pressure on the throat or the neck with any part of the body or a ligature).
The investigation was handled by Officer Manuel Soares IV, Kona Patrol, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Chase Murray. 2 The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
