High Surf Advisory Issued for West Hawaiʻi Facing Shores

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for west facing shores of Hawaiʻi Island from Limukoko Point in North Kohala to Kauna Point in Kau beginning at 6am on Wednesday, January 19 through the morning of  Thursday, January 20.

Forecast wave heights are 6 to 8 feet.

A High Surf Advisory means surf will be higher than normal, shore break, and dangerous currents make swimming difficult and dangerous.

Due to the High Surf Advisory, the following are issued:

·        Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

·        Property owners in low coastal areas should prepare their property for high surf.

·        Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.

·        Beaches may be closed without notice.
