Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park has announced its February 2022 flight operations schedule. Management of the park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain back country. Below is a detailed list of scheduled flight dates. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather
February 1 between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. for endangered plant recovery in Kahuku between 3,500- and 7,500-ft. elevation.
February 1 between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. for fountain grass control and mapping from Kamoʻoaliʻi to Keauhou, sea level to 3500-ft. elevation.
February 2 between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. for crew support sling loads in ʻŌlaʻa Tract between 3,500- and 4,500-ft. elevation.
February 10 between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. for vegetation monitoring support in ʻŌlaʻa Tract between 3,500- and 4,500-ft. elevation.
February 22 between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. for crew support sling loads between Mauna Ulu and Escape Road between 3,000- and 4,000-ft. elevation.
In addition, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory may conduct flight operations over Kīlauea and Mauna Loa to assess volcanic activity and maintain instrumentation.
