Hawaiʻi County DUI Stats: January 31-February 6

During the week of January 31, 2022, through February 6, 2022, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far in 2022, there have been 105 DUI arrests compared with 133 during the same period in 2021, a decrease of 21.1 percent.

There have been 75 major accidents thus far in 2022 compared with 70 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.1 percent.

To date, there were 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 7 fatalities, one of which had multiple deaths, compared with 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 5 fatalities for the same time in 2021, an increase of 40 percent.
