Puna Man Charged as Felon in Possession of Loaded Firearm and Drug Offenses

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that 52 year-old Lloyd Cowles of Puna, was charged as a felon in possession of a loaded semiautomatic pistol and ammunition and for methamphetamine, heroin, and marijuana offenses following the February 7  execution of a police search warrant at a Hawaiian Paradise Park residence.

As the Complaint alleges, Cowles, who has prior felony convictions for Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree and Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia, was charged with 7 offenses including Ownership or Possession of Firearm Prohibited (a loaded .22 caliber semiautomatic pistol), 2 counts of Ownership or Possession of Ammunition Prohibited, 2 counts of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possession of any amount of methamphetamine and heroin), Promoting a Detrimental Drug in the Second Degree (possession of over an ounce of marijuana), and Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia.

The investigation was handled by the Area I Vice Section, Hawai’i Police Department and the case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Elyssa Correia Keltner

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
