Honolulu Council Member Seeks Republican Nod for Governor

(AP) — Honolulu City Council member Heidi Tsuneyoshi is running for Hawaiʻi governor. Tsuneyoshi didn’t say which party’s nomination she would seek in a video posted on Facebook. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports she announced she is running as a Republican.  She told supporters she’s most concerned about people not being able to stay in Hawaiʻi and leaving the islands. U.S. Indo-Pacific Command program manager Lynn Mariano and business consultant Paul Morgan are also seeking the Republican nomination. Hawaiʻi’s primary election is scheduled for Aug. 13. On the Democratic side, Lt. Gov. Josh Green and former first lady Vicky Cayetano have announced their candidacies. Former Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell has also indicated he will run.
