Donkey Mill Art Center Celebrates “Convergence”

On Saturday, February 26, the Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa held their 15th annual art auction.  The auction is the center’s largest fundraiser and brought out art enthusiasts including Hawaiʻi County Mayor Mitch Roth.

The theme of this year’s event was convergence, which Donkey Mill Art Center Communications Director and Curator Mina Elison described as ” the power of the arts bringing people together.”

The Convergence exhibit was comprised of 75 works by emerging artists in a range of mediums including mixed media, painting, lauhala weaving and more.  All items were available for bid during silent and live auctions.

Executives from Charter Spectrum and the Ovation Network presented the mill with a $10,000 check as part of their “Stand for the Arts” program which supports local arts organizations.

Prior to the live auction, Mayor Roth expressed his appreciation of the arts and his enthusiasm for attending the event in addition to acknowledging the center’s role in the community.  Mayor Roth said, ” When you think of what we have been through over these last 2 years, the arts are so healing for all of us, the Donkey Mill has done some amazing things.”

Total proceeds from the auction event surpassed $96,000, a number above the Donkey Millʻs projected goal.
