Mountain View Man Charged Multiple Offenses Including Vehicle Theft and Drug Offenses

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that 25 year-old Mikaele Carvalho of Mountain View was arrested and charged in relation to the theft of a Honda Fit which was originally reported stolen from a Kona condominium parking lot on March 18. He was also charged for unauthorized entry of Ford and Mazda pickup trucks from a Hilo business on on March 21.

As the Complaint alleges, Carvalho, a felony repeat offender with two prior convictions for Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle, was charged with 7 offenses including Theft in the Second Degree (exert unauthorized control over a Honda Fit, valued over $750, with intent to deprive the owner of the Honda Fit), Theft in the Second Degree (exert unauthorized control over a wallet with the intent to deprive the owner of the wallet), Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle in the First Degree (exert unauthorized control over a Honda Fit without the owner’s consent), two counts of Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree (enter or remain within a Ford pickup truck and a Mazda pickup truck with intent to commit theft and/or criminal property damage), Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possess any amount of methamphetamine), and Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia.

If convicted as charged, Carvalho is subject to a mandatory prison term as a result of his prior felony convictions.

The investigation was handled by Officers Isabell Feki and Paul Rose, Puna Patrol, and Officers Christopher Fukumoto, Sheldon Adviento, and Michael Sailer, Special Enforcement Unit, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Soong.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
