Hawaiʻi Island Lane Closures: Week of April 4

The Department of Transportation has announced a number of lane closures throughout Hawaiʻi Island during the week of April 4.  Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  Below is a detailed list of scheduled roadwork and maintenance:
 

KUAKINI HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

HONAUNAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Kuakini Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 104 and 106, Tobacco Road and Middle Keei Road, through Monday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mulching and mowing.

 — MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) —

MOUNTAIN VIEW (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 21 and 23, Volcano Road and Omeka Road, through Monday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mulching and grass cutting.

 

HONAUNAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 85 and 86, Old Mamalahoa Highway and Ohana Road, through Monday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting.

 

KONA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in both directions between mile markers 105 and 106, Hawaii Belt Road and Mamalahoa Highway, through Monday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mulching and grass cutting.

— VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11) — 

VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) in both directions between mile markers 27 and 38, Haunani Road and Hawaii Belt Road, on Wednesday, April 6 through Thursday, April 7, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for installation of signs within Volcano National Park.

— HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) —

HILO

Right lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) in the northbound direction near mile marker 2.5, Shipman Street and Wailuku Drive, on Monday, April 4 through Friday, April 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for Wailuku Stream Bridge repair work.

 

HAKALAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction near mile marker 13.8, near Kolekole Beach Park, through Friday, April 8, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for bridge repair work. 

HONOMU (24/7 RESTRICTION)

Kolekole Bridge at mile marker 14.27 on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) is weight restricted to 12 tons (24,000 lbs.) until further notice. The speed limit in the area is reduced to 25 mph. See https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/weight-limit-for-kolekole-bridge-now-12-tons/ for details.

PAPAALOA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 23 and 25, Hawaii Belt Road and Puualaea Homestead Road, through Monday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work.

LAUPAHOEHOE (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 24 and 26, Papaa Loa Road and Hawaii Belt Road, through Monday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting.

PAAUILO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 32 and 38, Ke Ehia Place and Kalopa Road, through Friday, April 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for removal of trees adjacent to power lines. 

PAHOA-KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) —

PAHOA

Single lane closure on Pahoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile markers 0.0 and 3, Hawaii Belt Road and Keaau-Pahoa Road, through Friday, April 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for installation of new traffic signal indicators.

 

PAHOA

Single lane closure on Pahoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction near mile marker 15.4, Alaili Road, through Friday, April 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for pavement and guardrail improvements.

— MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) —

KAMUELA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 3 and 4, near Saddle Road, through Monday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for landscaping and shoulder work.

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 3.9 and 6.9, Saddle Road and Cross Island Road, on Monday, April 4 through Friday, April 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for shoulder widening, installation of rumble strips and other safety improvements.

 AKONI PULE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 270) —

HAWI (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) in both directions between mile markers 9 and 14, Kaiholena Place and Kapaa Park Road, through Monday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for landscaping and shoulder work.
