Hawaiʻi County DUI Stats: April 18-24

During the week of April 18 through April 24, 2022, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 23 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident, while. one of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2022, there have been 346 DUI arrests compared with 404 during the same period in 2021, a decrease of 14.4 percent.
There have been 234 major accidents thus far in 2022 compared with 251 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.8 percent.
To date, there were 10 fatal crashes, resulting in 12 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths), compared with 8 fatal crashes, resulting in 8 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 25 percent for fatal crashes, and 50 percent for fatalities.
