Police Investigating Early Morning Murder in Nānāwale

Hawai’i Island police have initiated a homicide investigation after a man was found dead on the morning of Saturday, May 21 in Nānāwale Estates in Puna.
 
After receiving a report of a man who had been shot, Puna Patrol officers discovered the victim in the roadway at the intersection of Nānāwale Boulevard and Seaview Road.
The victim has been positively identified as 36-year-old Junio Resun, of Nānāwale Estates, Pahoa. His body was transported to Hilo Medical Center where he was officially pronounced dead.
An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24.
Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section are continuing the investigation, which is classified as a second-degree murder. Police have not yet identified a suspect or motive in the slaying; however, are following up on leads.
