HPM Building Supply Awards College Scholarships to Local Students

The HPM Foundation has awarded 10 scholarships to outstanding Hawaiʻi Island and Oʻahu high school and college students. Six of the 10 scholars are from Hawai‘i Island, and plan to attend a University of Hawai‘i institution or are in their second year of the Hawai‘i Community College Carpentry program.

Since 1973, the HPM Foundation has awarded the Barney S. Fujimoto Memorial Scholarship to deserving students.  Fujimoto was a second-generation leader of HPM Building Supply who held education in high regard.

This year’s Hawai‘i Island scholarship recipients include:

  • Nai‘a Balancio, who recently graduated from Konawaena High School and intends to major in exploratory health sciences at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo.
  • Brook-Lynn Haa, who recently graduated from Waiākea High School and intends to major in natural science with a concentration in biological sciences at Hawai‘i Community College.
  • Michael Kitamura, who recently graduated from Waiākea High School and intends to major in engineering at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.

The HPM Foundation has also awarded 2022 HPM Building Future Builders Scholarships to the following students who are in their second year of the Hawai‘i Community College Carpentry program.

  • Keikimakamae Ahu
  • Jovaustin La‘a
  • Allen Soares
