Mauna Loa Eruption Update, December 11, 2022 – 3:00pm

As of 3:00pm on Sunday, December 11, 2022, the status of the ongoing Mauna Loa eruption is a follows:
The volcano’s alert level remains at Watch and HVO reports that the Fissure 3 output is confined within the vent.  There has been no new lava outside the vent and no communities are at risk.  The reduced level of activity is resulting in less red lava visible.  Although the eruption is underway, there are limited hazards.
Although Daniel K. Inouye Higway remains open in both directions; all areas near the highway and lava flow and closed and prohibited from public access.
