The Department of Transportation has announced a number of lane closures throughout Hawaiʻi Island during the week of January 2, 2023. The Holiday Lane Closure Restriction runs through Monday, January. 2. During this time, only closures with demonstrated need (e.g., necessary for safety or to avoid lengthy construction delays) have been approved and are on this list. Special use lanes and HOV lanes will not operate during this time. All regular closures will resume Tuesday, January 3.
Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.
MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11)
MOUNTAIN VIEW
Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 16 and 20, in the vicinity of N. Peck Road to S. Glenwood Road, from Tuesday, Jan. 3, through Friday, Jan. 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for vegetation cutting.
VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK TO PAHALA
Single lane closure on Mamaloha Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 30 and 51.3, from the vicinity of Volcanoes National Park to Kamani Street, on Tuesday, Jan. 3, through Friday, Jan. 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for installation of cables on existing utility poles.
