Kona Community Hospital Breaks Ground on Pharmacy Drug Compounding Facility Expansion

Kona Community Hospital officials joined State Sen. Tim Richards, State Reps. Nicole Lowen and Kirstin Kahaloa, and Hawaiʻi County Mayor Mitch Roth to break ground on the hospital’s drug compounding facility.
Yesterday’s gathering included pharmacy staff who have been looking forward to this day for years. Once complete, the facility will allow the pharmacy to continue supplying life-sustaining medication for oncology patients.
In June, Governor Green signed the budget, which appropriated a total of $18.5 million to Kona Community Hospital for its pharmacy upgrade and capital improvement projects that will enable hospital employees to continue providing a full range of services to West Hawaiʻi.
The facility is expected to open in late 2024.
