Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Stats: September 18-24

During the week of September 18, through September 24, 2023, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 13 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic collision while none of the drivers were under the age of 21.
Thus far in 2023, there have been 705 DUI arrests compared with 737 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.3 percent.
The Hawai’i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 604 major collisions so far this year compared with 601 during the same period last year, an increase of 0.50 percent. 

To date, there have been 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities, (one of which had multiple deaths); compared with 24 fatal crashes, resulting in 26 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths, and one was reclassified to a medical condition) for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 50 percent for fatal crashes, and 50 percent for fatalities.
