36 year-old Keli‘i Nobriga-Brown of Hilo was arrested and charged following an incident in the Hilo Safeway parking lot on Sunday, December 15.
According to police, Nobriga-Brown is alleged to have reached for a purse through a vehicle’s front passenger window. He then fled the scene on a bicycle and was later apprehended by South Hilo Patrol officers.
Nobriga-Brown made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court yesterday where his bail was maintained at $41,000.00 and he was ordered to appear for preliminary hearing on December 19, 2024.
As the Complaint alleges, Nobriga-Brown is charged with Unauthorized Entry Into a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, two counts of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possess any amount of methamphetamine), Promoting a Detrimental Drug in the Third Degree, Ownership or Possession of Ammunition Prohibited, and Place to Keep Ammunition.
Ownership or Possession of Ammunition Prohibited is a class B felony offense which carries a penalty of either a ten-year prison term or four years probation and up to eighteen months in jail. Unauthorized Entry Into a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree and Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree, are both class C felony offenses, which carry a penalty of either a five-year prison term or four years probation and up twelve months in jail. he charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kirsten Selvig.
