Man Charged in Robbery Incident Involving Sword

22 year-old Seanson Marpel was arrested in charged for a recent robbery involving a sword-like weapon outside of Wailoa Grill in Hilo.

Marpel was also charged in relation to the unauthorized use and possession of credit cards, belonging to two other individuals.

Last week, Marpel made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court where despite Prosecutors arguments to increase bail, the Court maintained it at $80,400.00.

Marpel, who was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on March 4, is charged with 19 offenses including Robbery in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree, Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree, two counts of Unauthorized Possession of Confidential Personal Information, and four counts each of Identity Theft in the Third Degree, Attempted Theft in the Fourth Degree, and Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card. The most serious offense, Robbery in the First Degree, is a class A felony offense which carries a penalty of a twenty-year prison term. Assault in the Second Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, Theft of Credit Card, Terroristic Threatening in First Degree, Identity Theft in the Third Degree, Unauthorized Possession of Confidential or Personal Information, and Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree are all class C felony offenses, which carry a penalty of either a five-year prison term or a probation term of four years and up to twelve months in jail.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Woodrow Pengelly.
