Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Statistics: May 12-18

During the week of May 12, through May 18, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Twelve of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while three of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far in 2025, there have been 357 DUI arrests compared with 361 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.11 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 392 major crashes so far in 2025, compared with 381 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 2.9 percent.

To date, there have been 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities compared with 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 16 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 14.3 percent for fatal crashes and 18.8 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
