Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Stats: May 18-25

During the week of May 18, through May 25, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eleven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while one of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2025, there have been 381 DUI arrests compared with 381 during the same period last year.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 415 major crashes so far this year, compared with 396 major crashes during the same time in 2024, an increase of 4.8 percent.

To date, there were 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities compared with 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 16 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 14.3 percent for fatal crashes and 18.8 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
