Kaua‘i Fire Department members rescued an injured 50-year-old North Carolina visitor from the Kukui Trail in Kōke‘e State Park on Tuesday.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of a distressed hiker.
Personnel with Waimea Fire Station and Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.and discovered the injured hiker approximately one mile into the Kukui Trail with an apparent ankle injury. Initial first aid was administered on scene. The hiker was then short hauled using an ARV device to the Kukui Trail landing zone. Upon landing, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for medical care.
