Hawai’i Hilo Vulcans Athletics set a new academic benchmark with nearly 230 student-athletes across its 12 sports teams posting a record-high combined grade point average of 3.32.
This year’s marks tops last year’s previous record-high combined GPA of 3.28 — a trend that has continually risen over the past decade. Earlier this week, it was also announced that a record 170 Vulcans student-athletes earned Academic All-PacWest Team honors for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
Across all 13 members of the Pacific West Conference, Point Loma and Dominican shared the top spot as both managed to post a combined GPA of 3.52.
For individual sports, Hawai’i Hilo’s women’s golf team topped all other squads with a GPA of 3.67. The highest team GPA was 3.86 from the Point Loma Men’s Tennis team.
The PacWest had 186 student-athletes ending the school year with a perfect 4.0 GPA — four of whom were Vulcans: Mason Cook (Baseball), Lauren Otsubo (Softball), Cami Oyama (Women’s Tennis) and Brandon Wada (Baseball).
