Officer Charles Caldwell-Kaai of the Kona Patrol was honored as the 2025 Officer of the Year by the Kona Crime Prevention Committee (KCPC).
Caldwell-Kaai has been with the Hawai‘i County Police Department for five years and was previously named Officer of the Month four times and received a statewide Officer of the Year award in 2020.
His recognition stems from outstanding investigative work in 2024, including the arrest of two suspects in one day for crimes ranging from identity theft to drug possession as well as conducting a traffic stop that led to a major drug seizure involving methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine, and cash.
Each month, the Kona Crime Prevention Committee selects an Officer of the Month. Those honorees are eligible for the annual Officer of the Year award.
