During the week of Nov. 10, to Nov. 16, 2025 Hawai‘i Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while one of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far in 2025, there have been 813 DUI arrests compared with 854 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.80 percent.
The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 880 major crashes so far this year, compared with 872 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 0.92 percent.
To date, there have been 18 fatal crashes, resulting in 20 fatalities compared with 24 fatal crashes, resulting in 27 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 25 percent for fatal crashes and 25.93 percent for fatalities.
So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
