Judge Reduces Bail for Puna ManCharged With Burglary and Theft

31-year-old Taja Daquan Peralta of Puna, who was arrested and charged the burglary of a Holo Kula Place residence and theft of a Laarvee brand watch, Iphone Pro Max, made his initial Kona District Court appearance where over Prosecutors’ objections, the District Court judge reduced his bail from $140,000.00 to $10,000.00 and ordered him to appear for a preliminary hearing today.

As the Complaint alleges, Peralta is charged with Burglary in the First Degree and two counts of Theft in the Second Degree. Burglary in the First Degree, is a class B felony offense and carries a penalty of either a tenyear prison term or four years probation and up to eighteen months in jail. Theft in the Second Degree is a class C felony offense and carries a penalty of either a five-year prison term or four years probation and up to twelve months in jail.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kate Perazich.
