Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Statistics: December 22-28

During the week of December 22, to December 28, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 11 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, while one of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2025, there have been 894 DUI arrests compared with 955 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.39 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 998 major crashes so far this year, compared with 981 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 1.73 percent.

To date, there have been 19 fatal crashes, resulting in 21 fatalities compared with 25 fatal crashes, resulting in 28 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 24 percent for fatal crashes and 25 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
